Things had been busy in the last month for the adventuring company known as the Dragonbusters! Iseri returned to the Rusty Dragon following the completion of her training in the deserts of Calimshan and was greeted warmly by her compatriots and the townsfolk of Sandpoint. Elsbeth had gone missing however on an unnamed errand, which led her fellow busters to journey to the defunct town of Sareloon to attempt to find her. There much merriment was made, green ale imbibed and songs sung of small town girls living in their lonely worlds!
Here also was Elsbeth found by her comrades, relaxing in the company of her extended family, not the least of which was her foster uncle, the Sage of Shadowdale himself: Elminster Aumar! The great sage gave gifts to each member of the company for providing for his foster niece and after a final night of suds and song, the group departed.
Returning to Sandpoint saw the once frontier town ablaze with activity. Abstalar Zanthus of the Temple of Lathander had revived the church’s military sect, the Hospitalars to serve as medical aides and warriors after the second attack by Blackfang. In an effort to further reinforce the town’s defenses, Zanthus had also reached out to the Temple of Helm to provide training for additional guards and watchmen. The result was better than expected, as the church of Helm had sent one of their best High Wardens, Y’dey Illvaster, to construct a new temple to bring the discipline of Helm to the Dragon Coast. Merchants and adventurers were also becoming a more common sight. Tales of the Dragonbusters having spread throughout the region, inspiring others to come to the frontier for wealth and excitement with businesses aplenty looking to provide for them! Sandpoint was on the fast track to becoming a proper city in its own right.
About a week after their arrival from Sareloon, the busters saw the departure of Zephus back to Westgate to attend to his duties in the Order of the Radiant Heart. News also arrived by messenger from Sareloon from Elminster himself, which promised wealth, excitement and danger!
The great sage had been hearing disturbing rumors from many of his field agents of the rise of a disturbing religious sect in the region. One that worshipped a deity whose name had not been spoken in over a thousand years. Elminster requested that his niece and her companions try and investigate the matter, starting with an abandoned moathouse/fortress located in the wilds of the region. After gearing up and charting a course, the Dragonbusters were on the road once again.
2 days travel brought them to the place. Their trip marked by combat with hobgoblin sentries wearing black heraldry marked by a strange symbol of a primitive looking eye. Even Iseri and Elsbeth together couldn’t make anything of it with all their diverse array of training. Stashing a tabard for later study, the group prepared to make their way into the fortress, but not before meeting with a strange half elven peddler. Introducing himself as Delian Thornbush or Ol’ Del for short, the wild looking trapper warned our heroes of a strange group of what seemed to be clerics making plans to take up residence in the abandoned fortress. They were however, not taking into account the young blue dragon Utreshimon had also thought the fort a fair place to nest. After hearing sounds of battle, Del noted that none of the clerics who went into the fort were able to come back out….
After selling a fine fox pelt to Kiba and making a very bold pass at Elsbeth, Del departed for Sandpoint and wished the team well on their journey. Arriving at the fort, the group was able to make their way in by way of a reinforced draw bridge. Kiba spied dry blood in the main courtyard of the keep and a curved ceremonial dagger. Nero the elven rogue attempted to sneak further into the fortress, but he was quickly found out by Utreshimon, who stormed forth in fury to challenge a new round of invaders!!!
The battle was fierce, but these were no foolhardy clerics! The busters employed both magic and steel, with the Druid Erelune even looking to take matters airborne by transforming herself into a giant eagle! Utreshimon was no fool however, and seeing itself on the end of a losing battle, the beast fled. Unfortunately it also carried a priceless treasure of Kiba’s with it: and indestructible black arrow that never missed its target. Vowing to recover the arrow later, the group began their search of the ancient fortress, starting with the bodies of 2 individuals clad in black….
